Sprint has announced that their first dual-mode CDMA/mobile WiMAX modems will be commercially available by the end of the year. This move will mark the end of the Xohm brand, which was launched back in August of 2007.

Sprint is offering their mobile WiMAX services with the aid of Clearwire. Sprint has managed to hold control of 51 percent of the new Clearwire venture. Sprints new dual-mode, CDMA/mobile WiMAX modem will be released in Baltimore by the end of 2008. The WiMAX service is Baltimore was launched in September under the Xohm branding. Sprint Nexel’s new “4G’ lineup will eventually include both handsets and modems. All of these devices will be able to switch between the CDMA network on the new WiMAX network that Clearwire is creating throughout the country.
