Whether you think EV-DO Rev.A wipes the floor with HSDPA or vice versa, one thing most people can agree on is that high-speed cellular data access is A Good Thing.  That’s why T-Mobile USA’s lack of a 3G network has been such an embarrassment for the carrier.  Now, according to TmoNews, they’re planning an imminent roll-out of their UMTS system, with New York City getting it sometime in May.

In fact, T-Mobile have apparently got a whole list of cities set to get a shot of UMTS goodness, with the rough estimate being “by the end of the year.”  Rolling out a new service to a total of twenty-five locations in nine months would be moderately impressive.  However, TmoNews’ sources tell them that the carrier is aiming to have the following 24 places 3G enabled by the end of June:

Austin
NJ and Long Island
Las Vegas
Minneapolis
Miami
Dallas
Chicago
Houston
Philadelphia
Denver
Detroit
Orlando
Kansas city
Atlanta
Los Angeles
New England
Portland
Sacramento
San Diego
Seattle
Washington DC
San Francisco
Birmingham
Memphis
Tampa
Phoenix

The official announcement is expected next week.  T-Mobile already has a few 3G-capable handsets in its range, but they presently only offer EDGE speeds. However they’re rumored to be picking up a US-spec version of the Motorola Z10.
