T-Mobile just pulled a brilliant move, they’ve raised their per message SMS rate from 15 cents to 20 cents. Now although in comparison to the competition that’s not anything horrible, but T-Mobile customers have likely gotten used to the low prices.
Now that they have done that if you wanted to you could probably get out of your contract without those extra fees thrown in. Granted some will likely try to pretend you can’t. However, if you kick and scream loud enough they’re likely to mutter something under their breathe. Something about that they are technically in breech of their end of the contract so you’re free to leave fee free.
Now the overly smooth part of the story is that they managed to do this just before the iPhone 3G launch. Which means there are a great many customers who aren’t going to be all that sad to go.
