As of today, Sprint and Nextel customers using certain handsets will have the option to dump their pocket full of change and, with suitably equipped retailers, use their cellphones to make credit card payments.  The software comes courtesy of Pipeline Data and is called Aircharge; once installed on a device it uses Bluetooth to send the credit card details to ... continued »

Having gone up for pre-order in the shape of the BUG Hiro P edition back in January, Buglabs' modular cellphone development platform has finally started shipping to customers.  David Findlay is one of the lucky developers to receive the package, and he's documented the unboxing - with a whole lot of pink antistatic foam - on Flickr.  Consisting of the BUGbase ... continued »

Sony Ericsson's latest touchscreen cellphone, the G700, has cleared the FCC, maintaining the company's intention to release the handset in Q2 2008.  The GSM device, announced at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year, is intended as a "broad appeal" device introducing non-business users to the benefits of a touchscreen interface.  As a result, as well as hardware buttons there's a ... continued »

Posted on 13 April 2008 by Chris Davies

Post CTIA Wireless and the news came, not thick and fast, but in dribs and drabs.  Leaks from Sony Ericsson came first, with images of the P5 'Paris' handset dripping out one at a time - seemingly in the hope of creating a big stir for a device not quite as thrilling as the XPERIA X1 - closely followed by ... continued »

We first heard about the Motorola V750 for Verizon back in February, when aside from the handset's name little was known about it.  Now photos of the V750, which has turned out to be a clamshell, have surfaced, showing that it has a similar keypad to the VU30 - also for Verizon - and, apparently, similar specifications.  However the harder-edged ... continued »

Tag Heuer Meridiist luxury cellphone

Posted on 10 April 2008 by Chris Davies

Perhaps, when the price of a Tag Heuer watch is considered, the estimated $5,300 - $6,000+ ticket on this upcoming cellphone bearing the company's moniker is justified.  After all, Vertu seem to make a good living pumping out limited edition, highly-priced handsets with mundane Nokia guts.  However, like Vertu have been accused of, Tag Heuer haven't exactly broken new ground with ... continued »

Posted on 09 April 2008 by Chris Davies

Sanyo's two new handsets for Sprint, the PRO-200 and PRO-700, got a bit swamped at CTIA Wireless, but it seems a shame not to give the Nextel Direct Connect compatible devices their moment in the sun.  Both clamshells with EV-DO Rev.A, Bluetooth, GPS and QVGA displays, they're the first Direct Connect handsets from the company to use the Sprint EV-DO ... continued »

Nokia has confirmed it is still working on its own iPhone rival, codenamed "Tube" and using the S60 Touch OS that we were so underwhelmed by at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year.  Including images of the prototype device as part of a developer conference in California this week, the Tube handset showed graphical displays, including Shrek the Third promo material, ... continued »
