Posted on 30 April 2008 by Chase Higgins

Verizon subscribers rejoice. The long awaited Samsung Gyde, or U940, is rumored to be launching on May 9th. There has been so much talk about this device, and so many leaked pictures, specifications, press photos and rumors, it is about time it got ready to launch. While the rumor is not rock solid, it is from a 'trusted source' according ... continued »

Verizon U940 Glyde by Samsung caught on camera

Posted on 14 March 2008 by Chris Davies

Verizon Wireless' U940 Glyde, the CDMA version of the Samsung F700 which passed the FCC in mid-February was initially expected to launch this month, has been caught on camera by a member of HowardForums, with a selection of images showing off the cellphone's modified GUI.  While the interface is now arguably more cluttered than that of the F700, it should make ... continued »

Samsung F490 confirmed for Vodafone UK

Posted on 13 March 2008 by Chris Davies

Pocket-lint are reporting that Vodafone UK have confirmed they'll be carrying the Samsung F490, the keyboard-free version of the F700v that's already exclusive to the network.  With HSDPA, a 3.2-inch 240 x 432 touchscreen and 5-megapixel camera with flash, the F490 has been hailed as a significant iPhone rival (although reviews have suggested it fares poorly in a comparison with ... continued »

Verizon bizarrely christen Samsung’s U940 ‘Glyde’

Posted on 25 February 2008 by Chris Davies

According to an anonymous Engadget Mobile tipster, Verizon have renamed their U940 smartphone - a version of the Samsung F700 - from "Q-Ball" to "Glyde".  It's a change that has already prompted some curiosity, with commentors suggesting that the handset now sounds like a form of lubricant.  Personally, if I were over there in the naming department at Verizon, I might ... continued »

Verizon U940 by Samsung manual & photos on FCC

Posted on 17 February 2008 by Chris Davies

Verizon's CDMA version of the Samsung F700, the U940 (previously codenamed "Q-ball") that's supposedly set to launch in March this year, has had photos and its user manual put up on the FCC's site.  They confirm that, unlike the F700, the handset will have a 2-megapixel camera, but otherwise the casing appears to be the same.  continued »

Samsung TouchWiz GUI video demo

Posted on 15 February 2008 by Chris Davies

Although the F700 is a nice phone, its Croix OS certainly isn't as smooth as that of the iPhone.  Samsung know that, of course, and they're pleading a rush to market and asking us to give them another chance with this, their new TouchWiz interface for touchscreen handsets.  As of the F480 and F490, all Samsung handsets will use the ... continued »

Samsung F490 Hands-on video

Posted on 14 February 2008 by James Allan Brady

In case you’ve missed it, the Samsung F490 is the keyboardless cousin to the Croix or F700v. It has a 5MP camera, a 3.2” touchscreen with some sort of pseudo haptic feedback system, and it has the same UI as the Croix. continued »

Samsung F490 confirmed for €412 February release

Posted on 01 February 2008 by Chris Davies

Samsung's F490 - which appears to be generally based on the F700, only with an upgraded 5-megapixel camera and the slide-out keyboard deleted - has been officially scheduled for release in Russia this month (and presumably elsewhere too), with a price considerably lower than the €530 it was predicted to be: the equivalent of just €412 ($610). continued »

Samsung i900 does not run Windows Mobile

Posted on 28 January 2008 by Vincent Nguyen

I just got confirmation that Sammy’s new i900 will NOT run Windows Mobile. Instead, it will sport the same user interface as the F700v aka Croix. The i900 is essentially the anorexic sibling of the F700v due in part to the lack of slide out keyboard. Make sure to check out my exclusive review of the Vodafone ... continued »

Verizon preparing CDMA F700 “Q-Ball” for Q1 release

Posted on 15 January 2008 by Chris Davies

According to good old-fashioned anonymous tipsters, Verizon Wireless is prepping their own, CDMA version of the Samsung F700/U940 which is provisionally titled "Q-Ball".  Bizarre the name might be, but the handset should be popular, especially if Verizon can get their act together and release it by the Q1 estimated launch date. continued »
