Sprint and Google are teaming up to bring a "richer experience" to mobile phones. This deal would bring all kinds of Google services to Sprint handsets. The press release states will bring "easy access" to Google Mobile Search, Google Maps, YouTube and more. Though these services are generally already available to many devices, the partnership will make it easier to ...

Talk about on again, off again, but it appears that finally, Sprint and Clearwire are going to get the whole WiMAX thing going. Not without the help from numerous corporate investors though. These investments come from the likes of Comcast, Google, Time Warner, and Intel, who had already invested in Clearwire. Smaller cable provide Bright House, contributed as well.

Not everyone is so excited about Google's plans to use the white space spectrum to deploy WiFi networks. White space, in the 700MHz terms, are the pockets of unused space between TV channels. There is quite a lot of this spectrum surprisingly, and it is very efficient. It is capable of propagating much further, and can go through walls, much ...

It's been blame, buy-outs and goodbyes this week, as the great & good (as well as the not-so-great) reshuffle in an increasingly competitive mobile market. Microsoft's finalising of their Danger deal ended with the software giant declaring they'd make Windows Mobile "fun", words even less comfortable with each other than Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston locked in a bathysphere. Meanwhile ...

The deadline for phase one of Google's Android Developer Challenge closed yesterday, and so the entrants are beginning to show off their wares. One of the more eye-catching is Enkin, an augmented reality app for Android which overlays GPS, motion information and other data over a live camera view of a user's surroundings. As an idea it's similar to designer ...

Three US government representatives have alleged that Google wilfully manipulated the recent 700MHz spectrum auction, and as a result potentially dissuaded bids in excess of $10bn extra. Republicans Cliff Stearns and John Shimkus together with Democrat Eliot Engel used a hearing today to express their concerns that, in pledging to meet the $4.6bn reserve set for Block C and thus secure ...

Now before you get excited/start vomiting, this is just a concept of what a Windows Mobile based Yahoo!fone might look like; the really interesting part is the idea of a collaboration between the two companies based not on Microsoft buying Yahoo! but the search and content company working with Seattle to rival Google's Android. ZDNet's Jason Perlow is surprisingly keen on ...

Seeing Android running on atypical hardware isn't exactly new, but it's certainly interesting to see it playing nicely with a relatively mainstream device rather than an obscure PDA of some sort. eLinux.org has managed to get the open-source OS working with Nokia's OMAP2-based N810 Internet Tablet, and while their implementation (which also works on certain Sharp Zaurus models) is still ...

It's usually tough to summarise a week when we've had a big cellular show, and this one is little different. Of course, the show in question was CTIA Wireless 2008, held in Las Vegas, and you can review all the coverage courtesy of this tag. Of the new handsets, Sprint grabbed headlines with the Instinct by Samsung, an obvious iPhone ...

As the hammer came down on the FCC's 700MHz spectrum auction last month, winners (and losers) were forced to be coy about their plans under the Commission's anti-collusion rules. That ban on discussion ended late yesterday, and various key players in the proceedings have stepped up to give their version of events. As expected, Verizon and AT&T have been crowing ...
