Nokia phone users have their own application store called the Ovi store. Granted you don't hear much about the Ovi store, but a small store is better than now app store I guess.

Nokia launched the Ovi app store today overseas and in the U.S. today. The 50 million Nokia phone users will now be able to download applications and game to their Nokia devices. Ovi consolidates all of the existing Nokia content into a single location for users to access and download.

Nokia remains focused on the social location service. The Finnish phone maker announced the latest version of Ovi Maps, allowing people to add personal location-based content and the release of the Ovi Maps Player API, a simple way to embed Ovi Maps into any compatible website.

The Finnish phone maker Nokia decided to focus on Ovi Store rather than developing its media sharing site Ovi Share. According to Reuters, Nokia would halt investment in this service as part of a revamp of its services strategy.

The Finnish phone maker is planning to launch an online store for mobile application called Ovi Store later this month, Forbes.com reports. The Nokia store will debut with a catalog of 20,000 items (while Apple and RIM launched their stores with a few hundred apps, as a comparison).

Beyond their original plan, Nokia will apparently not be launching their Ovi Store in the U.S. with a carrier billing model. Social aspect of the Ovi store would be the biggest differentiator.

Detailed plans were discussed recently about the upcoming Ovi Store. Nokia will launch its application store along with carriers in the UK, Italy, Singapore, Germany, Australia, Spain, the USA, Russia and Ireland.
