There has been a bit of talk here and there about the possibility of a PSP branded phone. Thus far there hasn't been a whole lot of official word coming from Sony on the subject, however, Marketing Week has a little bit of insight on the subject.

A recent patent application by Sony Ericsson documents what could be the basis of the well-rumored PSP Phone which even the official Sony magazine has suggested is in development. A PSP-style gaming cellphone from Sony is one of those perennial rumors you generally see rolled-out in naff "the year ahead" prediction features, but this time around it's Sony Magazine itself that's dropping hints about the manufacturer's mobile plans. According to the article, the "PSP-Style Phone" could be in shops as early as February.

Owners of Sony's PSP Slim'n'Lite portable games system that were hoping to get their VOIP action going once the Skype client was released for the handheld will now be disappointed; after testing the microphone add-on, it was found that it failed to meet Skype's hardware requirements and as such will be sent back to the engineers to be rejigged.
