Plantronics Discovery 925 Bluetooth headset: Video Review

Posted on 04 April 2008 by Vincent Nguyen

Plantronics officially announced their new Discovery 925 Bluetooth headset early on this week, and we've been putting it through its paces. In a market crammed with rivals offering striking designs, tiny casings and impressive performance you have to do something special to stand out, and Plantronics have picked the fashion route with their new VFrame design. That's not to say ... continued »

HTC Shift CDMA EV-DO UMPC review at SlashGear

Posted on 30 March 2008 by Chris Davies

Over at our sister site SlashGear they've been reviewing HTC's latest version of the Shift, complete with EV-DO cellular broadband courtesy of Sprint.  The UMPC, the CDMA version of which was leaked by Amazon a week and a half ago, is notable for its dual-boot with a full version of Windows Vista and a cut-down instant-boot Windows Mobile OS HTC ... continued »

Nokia N96 reviewed: very capable but still showing pre-production flaws

Posted on 28 March 2008 by Chris Davies

I'm not entirely sure how they did it - I'm suspecting a combination of devil worship and illicit favours - but Mobile-Review have managed to put a pre-production Nokia N96 through its paces months before the handset is intended to launch in Q3 this year.  In a typically comprehensive piece, Eldar Murtazin covers everything from how difficult the touch-sensitive scroll wheel is, ... continued »

Celio Redfly: first impressions good, but is it worth $500?

Posted on 19 March 2008 by Chris Davies

Looks like it wasn't just the jkOnTheRun boys who got Celio Redfly demo units; Matthew Miller has been playing with the Smartphone Companion too, including putting together a video of it in action (which you can watch after the cut).  We're also starting to see better images of the device, which is a relief because Celio's own pictures make it ... continued »

Sony Ericsson Z770i reviewed: not groundbreaking but good

Posted on 18 March 2008 by Chris Davies

Sony Ericsson's Z770i HSDPA clamshell was pushed out of the limelight back at the Mobile World Congress by the XPERIA X1, but if MobileArsenal's review is anything to go by it's been unfairly forgotten.  Testing out a pre-production version (that still bears the SE123 model code), they found that while the Z770i might not bring anything massively new or creative to the table, it's ... continued »

HTC Shift reviewed: Full-featured but flawed

Posted on 10 March 2008 by Chris Davies

You might remember back in February that we got so annoyed by HTC's missing Shift UMPC that the company itself had to calm us down; someone perhaps even more frustrated was The Boy Genius, maybe because he was planning on actually buying the device, so it's nice to vicariously enjoy his eventual review now that it's actually in his hands.  Of ... continued »

Palm Centro for AT&T: Launch day review

Posted on 19 February 2008 by Vishnu

Launched today, AT&T are describing their white Palm Centro as ideal for an entire spectrum of users, from the "plain mobile phoner" and on up from there. More specifically, I think that this is totally the ideal device for the user who is just now moving up from the standard mobile phone into the smartphone realm. The Centro ... continued »

Nokia N82 reviewed: excellent media but at a cost

Posted on 06 February 2008 by Chris Davies

WirelessInfo's Alfredo Padilla has posted an insanely detailed review of the Nokia N82, the Finnish company's latest do-anything cellphone that packs GPS, WiFi, HSDPA and a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and xenon flash.  Alfredo is pretty blunt about the handset, liking the well-integrated functionality, rated the camera as "among the best we've seen" and pegged the video capture as ... continued »

Skyfire mobile browser reviewed: Best yet for WM

Posted on 05 February 2008 by Chris Davies

Back in the days when I regularly used a Pocket PC, Access' NetFront browser was my salvation from Pocket Internet Explorer.  Now, Microsoft have tweaked PIE in the meantime, but it still pales compared to the current browser-du-jour: mobile Safari on the iPhone; what's needed is a Windows Mobile app which can handle not only full webpages but all the multimedia and Flash ... continued »
