Samsung and US Cellular have announced the Samsung Gloss SCH-u440, a budget clamshell messaging phone. Intended for straightforward text messaging, rather than hardcore email use, the Samsung Gloss has a full QWERTY keyboard and a powder-compact style casing, together with a 1.3-megapixel camera and stereo Bluetooth support.

LG has launched a new clamshell phone called LG UX280 Wine through U.S. Cellular, the sixth largest US mobile carrier. It's designed as a mid to entry-level handset; available in silver and red.

It looks like AT&T isn't doing so hot when it comes to carrier competition. In fact, they came in last in a recent JDPower and Associates wireless industry survey.
