Canadian carrier TELUS will be the first North American carrier to offer Anam’s SMART SMS messaging system, which can enable instant global money transfers to anybody in a user’s address book.  The system also presents new opportunities for targeted advertising, embedding user-specific adverts within messages with special deals and/or offers, although TELUS is yet to indicate in which ways it may use that feature.

As well as money transfers between individuals, the Anam system could also facilitate SMS payments to retailers; Anam also offer an SMS forward-to-email and out-of-office service, although TELUS have not specified if they will be rolling out those aspects of the SMART system.  The company already works with British Telecom, carrier O2 and Go Mobile.
