One of the components inside mobile phones that draw the most power is the screen. Many manufacturers are looking to more efficient screen designs to help improve the battery life and run time of mobile phones.

Toshiba America Electronic Components has revealed a new and energy efficient screen at the SID International Symposium running this week. The new mobile phone screens feature Toshiba TMD Screen Fit technology to reduce glare and LED backlit control for improved power efficiency.

Toshiba reports that the technology allows for LCDs on mobile phones that offer deeper blacks and improved legibility. A special resin injected between the cover panel and the polarizer film of the LCD fuses the two together and allows for significantly reduced glare. The Screen Fit technology eliminates two layers in typical mobile phone LCDs that are responsible for glare. A screen on display at SID measures 4.3-inches and has a resolution of 480 x 272.
