Over the last few years, the big push in the mobile phone industry has been towards touchscreen technology. The iPhone helped bring capacitive touch technology to the mass market and since the device debuted, the number of touch screen devices on the market has boomed.

ELO TouchSystems has announced a new touch screen technology that delivers real-time, two-finger gesture recognition on an analog resistive touchscreen. The company says that it recognized the need for a technology to fill the gap between cheap resistive panels that scratch easily and more robust capacitive screens that are expensive.
The new screen technology developed by Elo uses a single indium tin oxide layer to reduce the cost of the technology used in many touch-enabled cell phones. The technology reduces the cost but still delivers the sensitive, accurate, fast touch response mobile users want. There is now word on when devices using the new screen technology will hit the market.
