The UIQ smartphone OS has been updated to version 3.3, with the SDK available for developers to download today.   Built upon Symbian OS v9.3, the new software includes Opera Mobile 9.5, the ‘UIQ Dashboard’ of widgets available from a shortcut key, compatibility with Opera widgets for internet-connected information and applets, a new Unified Messaging Platform, and the Java JSR 248 MSA Fullset

“With an aim to extend UIQ based mobile phones into the mass-market, UIQ’s focus is to ensure a flexible and powerful open user interface and development platform that optimizes the options for mobile phone manufacturers to create higher volume phones for the market” UIQ Technology press release

UIQ’s existing OS is already used by Motorola (such as in the MOTO Z10) and Sony Ericsson (notably in its P-series smartphones), both of whom have confirmed their intention to use the new update in future devices.
