As of today, 14th April, smartphone users looking to get some of that unlimited data goodness will have another option, courtesy of Verizon Wireless’ new Email & Web for Smartphone plan [pdf link]. Priced at $29.99 as a monthly add-on, it gives unlimited data for personal email and on-device web browsing. At first, Verizon appear to be supporting three main smartphones: the Verizon XV6800, Motorola Q9m and SMT5800.

However, if you’re looking for a cheap way to get push email via an Exchange server, this isn’t the plan for you: Verizon have limited it to POP3 messaging. The service, once activated, will have easy set-up wizards for mail from Windows Live, AOL, Yahoo!, AIM and Verizon.net, with push email available for all but Verizon’s own (which is checked automatically every 15 minutes). It’s also compatible with any other POP3 service, although you’ll have to enter the server details yourself; those accounts are automatically checked every 15 minutes.
In addition to individuals, the Email & Web Smartphone plan will be available to small businesses. It’ll also be offered as a standalone plan, without a voice contract, for $34.99 a month.
