We have heard a lot about Sprint’s next generation of Push To Talk technology, called QChat. Until now though, we had not heard too much about Verizon’s plans for their next generation of Push To Talk technology. It has always been a safe bet Verizon would not let Sprint get away with an exclusive technology, and now we can clearly see Verizon has plans for it too.

QChat is a technology developed by Qualcomm for CDMA carriers to upgrade their current Push To Talk networks. QChat looks to provide comparable connection times over iDEN. iDEN has generally been considered the quickest Push To Talk system. QChat is compatible with both iDEN and CDMA networks, as one of the goals is to allow the phasing out of iDEN networks. QChat’s underlying technology is EV-DO Rev. A, Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, and several regional CDMA providers use this technology.

Verizon provides EV-DO Rev. A in nearly every EV-DO market. For Verizon, that is quite a few. Verizon is expected to have the service ready by the end of May. Their will be two phones compatible with the service at launch, the Motorola V750, and the G’zOne c711.
