Verizon Wireless adds 1.1 new customers in Q2 2009

The two largest mobile phone providers in all the land are Verizon Wireless and AT&T. AT&T can thank the iPhone for its massive growth and many of the new customers it has added to its service. Once the iPhone exclusive ends, AT&T may find its outlook not so rosy.

Verizon Wireless reported that at the end of Q2 2009 it had 87.7 million customers including 85.2 million retail customers. The retail customers are the ones that Verizon directly serves and manages. Verizon still lays claim to the best coast-to-coast wireless voice and data network.

Net customer additions for the quarter were 1.1 million for Verizon. AT&T boasted 1.2 million new customers for the quarter according to sources, and the same sources claim that almost all of those new users signed up for the iPhone.
