Verizon and AT&T both bet on LTE as their 4G technology and left Sprint alone to try and beat LTE to market with WiMAX in the States. Sprint has been able to launched limited WiMax availability in some cities around the country and Verizon is making good on its promise to have some LTE installations complete this year.

Verizon previously announced that it was going to install LTE in Seattle and Boston this year for its first LTE networks. The company has now announced that it has placed its first successful LTE 4G data calls in the Boston and Seattle areas.
The data calls were placed using the 3GPP Release 8 standard. The calls involved streaming video; file uploads, and downloads as well as web surfing. Verizon also made successful VoIP calls on the network. Boston and Seattle each now have ten LTE 4G towers in place.
