I frequently watch YouTube videos on my iPhone when I am out and get bored. I’ve ran down more than one battery watching people do stupid things while waiting to pick up the kids at school. Verizon Wireless is talking up its V CAST mobile VOD service, which sounds better than YouTube.

Verizon claims that it is the industry leader in VOD and that its V Cast service now offers more than 135 full-length TV series from leading broadcasters on wireless phones. Verizon Wireless reports that in Q1 2009 there were nearly 50 million downloads and streams of V CAST video and music.

Verizon is offering a 24-hour pass to V CAST to its customers for $3 as a try it before you buy it offering. The monthly subscription costs $15 and downloads and streams from V CAST don’t count towards monthly bandwidth maximums.
