Virgin Mobile boost no-contract plans with unlimited calls & minute rollovers

Virgin Mobile USA logoNew plans galore over at Virgin Mobile USA and, considering I was taken to task for suggesting that the only people endeared to the network were those highly contract-phobic, you’ll be pleased to hear that they’re continuing their policy of no commitment for either pre- or post-pay customers.  The changes include a new unlimited evenings & weekends plan for pay-monthly customers, priced at $49.99, with evening rates starting at 7pm, and roll-forward of up to 5,000 unused prepaid minutes when you buy a new Minute Pack within 30 days.

They’re also seemingly keen to make sure potential customers know exactly how Virgin plans compare to rivals, with some name & shame comparison charts.  I can’t see AT&T and the rest being too impressed by that, so expect a retort sometime soon.

I may have been critical of Virgin Mobile before, but I do give them kudos for their no-contract policy.  Looking back to when a 12 month contract was the norm, even that seemed a big obligation – now, two years is to be expected and some, particularly in Canada it seems, are offered three year contracts.  For all they’re doing, though, Virgin’s share price is still precarious.
