webOS SDK open from Palm

YesNo

Palm is giving away more details the upcoming webOS platform that will power the device. From this point, all future Palm models will be open to developers.

Palm’s Michael Abbott announced at the Web 2.0 Expo that the company is prepared to let “broad group of developers” work through core functionality such as linked contacts, layered calendars, multitasking and push notifications. Will this mean more applications for Palm than iPhone?

Although Palm will not be releasing the software toolset to the general public just yet, interested developers are able to pre-register to download the SDK for no charge at developer.palm.com. Application ideas submitted on its website will be screened as well as allowed a few testers into the fold. Over time, the company will scale up the operation as tools mature with feedback and requests from the development community.
