Now right off the top of my head I’m having difficulty thinking of a situation by which controlling your S60 or UIQ cellphone via a Wiimote would be especially useful - surely gaming, the function most associated with the controller, would be tough on the eyes if you got far away from the handset to swing the Wiimote? - but just because I can’t fathom a purpose, it doesn’t mean it’s not an exceptionally cool hack. The work of Alexander Erifiu and Mario Grammer, mobiPad is a Bluetooth profile that deciphers the Bluetooth mutterings of a Wiimote and translates them to keyboard mappings: in short, wave your Wiimote and control your smartphone.

The developing duo were responsible for WiiConnect & WiiRider, and turned their attentions to mobiPad at the beginning of the year. They’ve tested it on the W950, P1i and N95, but it’s Symbian signed and should work fine with all S60 3rd edition devices as well as all UIQ3 devices. As long as the game you’re playing supports button customisation, you should be good to go with mobiPad.
Right now the Wiimote’s rumble hasn’t been incorporated, and the Numchuck isn’t supported, but they’re high priorities for future versions.
