The WiMAX Forum, who is a special interest group that represents the WiMAX technology, is saying that by the year 2012 there will be more than 133 million users of the technology. The study says that by that time, more than %70 of WiMAX users will be using the mobile implementation of the technology, on devices such as mobile phones and PCMCIA cards. The study was done by an independent party.
The president of the WiMAX Forum, Ron Resnick had some things to say about the WiMAX initiative.
WiMAX is here now and is the catalyst in the global marketplace to grow demand for mobile broadband Internet access. This new subscriber and user forecast is a solid proof point of the future growth of the thriving mobile Internet ecosystem and presents reasonable predictions of the positive progress our industry is working to achieve.
The study said a main source of the subscriber base could be people from the Asian Pacific region, and in the Americas. The report goes on to say the reason for this is in those more sparsely populated areas, the technology will be able to provide broadband services for the first time.
