Can you trust anything set to launch on April 1st?  Pocket-lint are reporting that Windows Mobile 6.1, the slightly updated OS which has already been promised for multiple handsets, will launch in a week’s time, quoting “sources close to the matter”.  Detailed screenshots of the software circulated in February, showing Microsoft’s attempt to streamline the GUI to improve the experience of first-time users while also making it more efficient for seasoned owners.

As I said back in February, though, 6.1 still comes nowhere near the attractive usability of, say, Apple’s iPhone or (admittedly function-lighter) handsets like Samsung’s with their Croix/TouchWiz GUI.  Of course, WM6.1 is a stop-gap measure until Microsoft release WM7, although no time scale for that has been revealed.
