Although there is no word yet on price the Philips Xenium X530, recently approved by the FCC should soon be available. This phone could be the next one my mother, with 850 hours of standby time.

The first thing I hear from my mother is “why don’t you ever call me”, where generally I reply with “everytime I ring you, your phone is off.” The normal snap in return is “the battery never lasts and I only turn it on for emergencies.” (Sigh… parents) Anyway, this phone is said to pack a punch with a battery that will last longer than a 5 year olds definition of ‘forever’.

The phone on current reports does not support GSM 850 meaning Northern American customers won’t be able to take advantage of a months standby time. A rather attractive flip phone, the Xenium seems a good one again for the ‘just want a phone that makes calls’ market.
