Zer01 offering unlimited Data and Voice

For just $69.95 a month, Zer01 Mobile is offering unlimited voice and data on smartphones. The carrier is said to be as broad as the one owned by AT&T.

The company is using a form of roaming agreement to tunnel from AT&T’s network into their own IP backbone. Some of the savings come through the elimination of traditional circuit-switched voice calling. Zer01 chief executive Ben Piilani said, “no calls, period, go out over the GSM network.” Through the development of specific algorithms, the latency issues of the GSM Network have been addressed. The little under $70 plan includes unlimited VOIP calling and data, and is month-to-month with no contracts or credit checks.

For $10 more per month, you also get unlimited international calling to 40 countries. Each device that goes with the network will gain a fixed IP address. Connections open a VPN tunnel to the company servers. As well as looking after existing models, Zer01 is looking to also sell HTC phones. As for marketing, the initial push will be Windows Mobile devices. The new carrier plans to launch with a closed beta in April and to set a commercial launch date at the CTIA trade show on April 1.
