Text entry on a mobile device is always controversial: while some are perfectly happy pecking at an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, others prefer handwriting recognition, proper hardware keyboards or even T9. That’s before you get into boundary-blurring options like RIM’s SureType. Anybody who has eyed up the iPhone’s relatively clever virtual keyboard - complete with letter magnification - but are glued to their Windows Mobile handset now have a similar choice: ZoomBoard has been updated to version 2, and with it niceties like adjustable and/or floating zoom, portrait and landscape support, and improved gesture capabilities introduced.

- 3 different types of zooming: full zoom, lens zoom, float zoom
- SmartZoom. When enabling this option it is possible to zoom the pressed letters either immediately or with a delay
- Better gesture support
- Significant increase of layouts. Alongside the layouts that were available in the previous version (English, Russian, German and some others) 32 layouts for other languages have been added
- Landscape mode now adjusts to the landscape screen, stretching and enlarging to adjust to the different format
ZoomBoard 2 is available to download now, priced at $9.95; currently registration details from version 1 are reported to work fine with version 2.
