ZyXEL have begun shipping their mobile WiMax router for Sprint’s Xohm service. The device, first unveiled at CES 2008 in January, is a relatively large 4G router/modem with both ethernet and VoIP ports. Xohm users are predicted download speeds of between 2 and 4Mbps and upload of 1 to 3Mbps.

According to market sources, initial orders of the ZyXEL device are low, since Sprint’s rollout of the WiMax network is limited. However this could all change should they finalise a network sharing deal with Clearwire.

Why wi-max routers are so big in size. Hard to carry. When will they be compact? Ideally these should be integrated within laptop size machine.
